The Ardbeg Alligator Untamed Release is a single malt whisky, notable for its maturation in new American white oak casks. These casks experience a high-level charring process, causing the internal wood to crack and visually resemble alligator skin, hence the 'Alligator' moniker. This intense charring procedure contributes to the whisky's distinct flavor profile.
Launched in 2011, the Untamed Release followed the Committee Release, both of which have since sold out. This edition is characterized by the Ardbeg spirit maturing in virgin American oak casks with a high degree of charring. It shares maturation similarities with Ardbeg's 10-year-old whisky, which also incorporates a portion of spirit aged in heavily charred barrels.
The Ardbeg Alligator Untamed Release is bottled at 51.2% ABV and is non-chill filtered. It combines 10-year-old ex-bourbon cask matured Ardbeg with spirit from heavily charred new American oak casks. The charring process lends the whisky a heightened level of spice and a deeper coloration.
