The Hanyu 1985 Queen of Diamonds is a Japanese single malt whisky, part of the Ichiro's Malt 'Card' series. The series is notable for its unique labeling, featuring different playing cards for each release. This bottle was distilled in 1985 and bottled in 2007, making it one of the last batches produced before the distillery's closure in 2000.
The whisky was initially matured in a hogshead cask and later finished in a French oak cognac cask. This dual maturation process adds complexity to the whisky. It has a cask strength of 58.5% (58.0%) ABV, appealing to collectors and investors looking for high-strength whiskies.
Only 223 bottles of this particular release were produced, contributing to its rarity and collectibility. Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of Hanyu distillery's founder, was responsible for curating this release, as part of an effort to continue the family's distilling legacy.
