The Laphroaig Cairdeas 200th Anniversary Edition is a single malt whisky commemorating the distillery's bicentennial. It's formulated by Master Distiller John Campbell to replicate the flavor profile of Laphroaig's 19th-century whisky.
In its creation, Campbell utilized only floor-malted barley sourced from the distillery's own malting floor. The distillation process was carried out in the two smaller, older stills at Laphroaig, lending an authenticity to the tribute.
The whisky underwent maturation for approximately 12 years in ex-bourbon casks located in Warehouse No.1, one of the oldest at the Islay-based distillery. It's presented at a potent 51.5% ABV, a factor contributing to its character.
The term 'Cairdeas', a Gaelic word meaning 'friendship', signifies Laphroaig's relationship with its 'Friends of Laphroaig' community. The annual release of a Cairdeas edition is a cherished tradition, of which the 200th Anniversary Edition is a part.
