The Yamazaki 18 Year Old is a single malt whisky produced by the Yamazaki Distillery. This expression features a blend of whiskies matured in Sherry, Bourbon, and Mizunara oak casks.
Introduced to the distillery's core range in 1992, the whisky is primarily aged in sherry butts, making up 80% of the blend. The remaining 20% is matured in a combination of Japanese Mizunara and American oak casks. The use of Mizunara oak is notable for its rarity and the unique qualities it imparts to the whisky.
The whisky has received several industry awards, including distinctions at the International Spirits Challenge and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Despite these recognitions, the whisky is also known for its limited availability due to a shortage of mature stock in Japan.
