The Clynelish distillery is a modern distillery, built in 1967 next to the old distillery Brora (which was previously called Clynelish). Two distilleries worked together for 14 years, although the whisky style is completely different. The Brora distillery produced much more smoky whisky than Clynelish and was closed in 1983. Clynelish whisky barrels are now stored in the warehouses of the closed distillery.

Only 1% of the total production goes to the production of Clynelish single malt whisky. The rest is one of the key components in the Johnnie Walker Gold Label blend. Moreover, it is spent on the Diageo blends.
