The whisky's maturation process employs two distinct cask types: bourbon quarter casks and Madeira casks. The former, due to their compact size, symbolizes the ease of concealment and transport, vital to Arran's illicit distillers. This choice of casks subtly references the clever strategies employed by these distillers to evade detection.

Meanwhile, the Madeira casks, traditionally used for storing and transporting wine, were a common resource provided by European smugglers. The use of these casks in the maturation process serves as a tribute to these overseas counterparts who contributed to the clandestine production of Arran Waters.

With a cask strength of 56.8% Vol., the Exciseman reflects the character of its predecessors in the Smugglers' Series. Packaged in a book-shaped box, each of the 8700 limited-edition bottles symbolizes the discreet practices used to elude the authorities, thereby highlighting the ingenuity rooted in Arran's whisky-making history.
