The Macallan Robert Burns Semiquincentenary is a special edition whisky, unveiled in 2009, to mark the 250th birth anniversary of Robert Burns. The series is limited to 250 bottles, each originating from two distinct casks, one from 1997 and another from 1998, both labeled as 1759 - Burns' birth year. The whisky, with a strength of 46% ABV, falls under the sherry oak category.
The bespoke decanter, inspired by the traditional Macallan bottle shape, houses the whisky, which was curated by Macallan's whisky maker, Bob Dalgarno. His discerning selection of the commemorative casks underscores the product's distinction.
The whisky comes in a red pine box, handcrafted by cabinet maker Harvey McLean, with a workshop located near Burns's birthplace. The box showcases an enamel plate portraying Robert Burns. Notably, as per the distillery's original production protocol, these Macallan decanters were left unsealed.
A unique feature of this edition is the inclusion of a numbered printing of a Burns poem and an antique 'Burns Country' map in every box, connecting the whisky with Burns' heritage and influence.
