The Blair Athol distillery, based in Pitlochry, Perthshire, is the source of Bell`s blended whisky, the UK's number one selling whisky since 1978.

Today, Bell's is one in five bottles of whisky sold in the UK. The fight for this title began back in 1933, with the abolition of Prohibition in the USA. Back then, all the big businesses, feeling the freedom, were quite ready to fight for the market. In this situation Bell`s brand owners had no other choice but to acquire Blair Athol and Dufftown distilleries, thus ensuring the right volume of malt whisky for blends. Five years later, the Inchgower distillery was also bought for the same purpose.

For a long time the only official release was Blair Athol 12-years-old, from the Flora & Fauna series. In 2010 an unrated whisky was released, matured in first fill sherry casks and available for distillery visitors only. A few months before that, a Blair Athol 1995 vintage was released in the Manager`s Choice range.
